If you do not have a PoE switch, you can alternatively connect a power adapter. You need a power adapter with 12 volts, at minimum 1 ampere current and a hollow plug with 5.5 mm × 2.1 mm.
There are also 12V mains adapters with a hollow plug that is too large, but you will notice relatively quickly that the typical loose contact occurs at the power connection of the telephone.
The voltage measured in volts must be the same for the telephone and the power supply unit. If the power supply unit only delivers 5 volts, the electronics will break down.
